Army, APF in super-league

Jan. 3, 2018 - Tribhuban Army and Nepal APF Team have advanced to the super league of the ongoing 16th National Women’s League Championship 2074 as they smashed Mid-Western Region 12-0 and Western Region 14 -0 respectively on Wednesday. 

In the first match held at ANFA Complex, Satdoabto Sharmila Thapa Magar and Sapana Lama duly added four and five goals respectively while Dipa Rai bagged a brace and Skipper Krishna Khatri scored a single.

Army took a quick lead with Sharmila Thapa Magar in the 4th minute of the match. Skipper Krishna added the lead latter in the 11th minute.

Thapa Magar took advantage of a defensive blunder to up her hat-trick in the 26th and 35th minute. She also directed the ball into the post in the injury minutes to seal a heavy 12-0 win for Army.

Sapana Lama also fired a race scoring in the 38th, 53rd, 76th, 80th and 85th minute.

The victory for Army was also inspired by Dipa Rai’s brace in the 25th and 29th minute.

In the second match, Sabitra Bhandari once again grabbed the limelight scoring eight goals in her team's empathic 14-0 victory over lowly Western Region.

The win put both Army and APF into the super-league with a game in hand for both. The next match between the two sides on Friday will decide who marches in as the winners. As for now, both teams are tied with six points each.

Bhandari, riding high on a record breaking 12 goals in the previous match against Mid-Western, scored in sixth minute to give APF the lead. A left footed low drive in the bottom corner opened the flood gates for APF. She then scored in the 27th, 33rd, 45+1', 50', 54', 66' and 89th minutes to establish herself as the highest scorer with 20 goals in two matches.

Rekha Paudel (37' and 40'), Anita KC (58', 59'), Renuka Nagarkoti (65') and Anita Basnet (77') were the other scorers for the victors.
